Helps to Intercession

By Andrew Murray

What to Pray – For the Spirit of Love in the Church

I pray that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them and Thou in Me; that the world may know that Thou hast sent Me, and hast loved them, as Thou hast loved Me . . that the love wherewith Thou hast loved Me may be in them, and I in them. -John 17:22, 23, 26.
The fruit of the Spirit is love. -Gal. 5:22.

Believers are one in Christ, as He is one with the Father. The love of God rests on them, and can dwell in them. Pray that the power of the Holy Ghost may so work this love in believers, that the world may see and know God’s love in them. Pray much for this.

How to Pray – As One of God ‘s Remembrancers

I have set watchmen on thy walls, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that are the Lord’s remembrancers, keep not silence, and give Him no rest.-Isa. 62:6.

Study these words until your whole soul be filled with the consciousness, I am appointed intercessor. Enter God’s presence in that faith. Study the world’s need with that thought – it is my work to intercede; the Holy Spirit will teach me for what and how. Let it be an abiding consciousness: My great at lifework, like Christ’s, is intercession – to pray for believers and those who do not yet know God.

Such an important word Pastor Mark. Thank you, this is my favorite so far. I’m loving your daily exhortations to pray the the helpful ways to between pray. May the Lord stir our hearts to daily and diligently seek His face and by the power of His Holy Spirit be filled with His love.
Thank you again and God bless you!

Thanks, Jeanne. Don’t think I wasn’t thinking of you a little bit when I put this together…it is obvious that God has shaped and molded your character over the years to be one of the most welcoming and hospitable people I have ever met. I pray your spirit of love continues to be contagious in our church, as I see that same spirit in so many of our brothers and sisters at Cross Connection.

The invisible God becomes visible through the tangible love expressed in His people.
Kindness(an attribute of love), has converted more sinners to Christ than zeal, eloquence, or learning.

    Thanks Mark for your encouragement!

Well said, Scott. There is no amount of eloquent speech, learning or zeal that can substitute for the undeniable spirit of loving acts done as unto the Lord for others. One of the things that was a powerful witness to me before I became a Christian was the loving acts done by saints for others both in and out of the church. I believe they are our most powerful testimony.
